After getting a sweet concept from our concept team, I ended up iterating on the saddle seat a bit before landing on a 3D design I was happy with. The idea being riders use the hand controls to spin the gears in the front section of the seat that slacken or tighten the hook cables embedded into the malwyn to control its movements.

The character team and I authored the base smart materials to create a cohesive look across faction assets, which were further customized to fit each asset by the artist responsible for the particular asset.
